The Amaretto Sour is a classic cocktail that uses the sour template to showcase the beautiful almond flavor of amaretto. Splitting the base with bourbon creates a more balanced drink that's not too cloying.
These are a seasonal favorite for me, one of the first I reach for as the days get shorter and the nights get cooler—the first batch of amaretto sours is my unofficial marker for the start of fall.
Try it with any amaretto or bourbon you like or have on hand—I typically reach for Disaronno and Elijah Craig small batch. If you get a particularly sour lemon, add simple syrup to taste until you're happy with the balance.
Variations
- All Amaretto: Drop the bourbon and simple, increase to 2oz of amaretto for a sweeter drink that's closer to the original spec
