The Between the Sheets is a classic cocktail that showcases the perfect balance of cognac, rum, and orange liqueur. It's a sophisticated drink that combines the richness of cognac with the lightness of rum, creating a complex and layered drinking experience.

History

Created in the 1930s, this cocktail is a variation of the Sidecar, but splits the base with rum for extra complexity. The name suggests a certain sophistication and intrigue that matches the cocktail's layered flavor profile.

Variations

  • Equal Parts Classic: Some older specs call for equal parts cognac, rum, orange liqueur and lemon juice—no simple syrup. While I like an equal parts drink in concept, I find this one risks skewing too sour depending on your lemon luck and choice of rum. Still, don't let my palate and limited experience deter you from giving the classic spec a try.
